What is Patronus?
Patronus is a proprietary DVD copy control technology which helps videographers, photographers and media creators protect their digital assets on DVD and increase their return on investment.

Patronus is a passive anti-rip solution that encapsulates data files on a DVD disc causing access to the content by common ripping programs to be controlled. The original media content is not modified and play-back quality remains unaffected. This is achieved by introducing copy control encapsulation in areas of the disc that are not read by DVD players during playback. Copy controlled discs are designed to provide effective speed bump protection from unauthorised casual copying.

Copy controlled discs have full DVD player playability matching that of unprotected DVDRs. Menus, special features and extras are unaffected and remain as the original.

Will it protect my DVDs 100% of the time?
Patronus is all about risk mitigation - helping you to make the percentage loss as small as possible to increase your chances of profit.

Patronus will defeat the casual disc copier who is using common disc ripping programs - and is regularly updated to defeat new ripping programs when they are discovered. Patronus therefore protects your content against all but the most determined and skilled DVD hackers.

How easy is it to use?
Patronus is extremely easy to use - and is applied using the Origo software program. When you create a DVD using your normal DVD authoring program the final stage will give you the option of either burning it to a blank DVD disk or creating an 'Image File' or 'ISO' file. To add Patronus protection you simply import these ISO files into the Origo program, state how many copies you require (and yes - it can drive a specially configured duplication tower - see below) - and then hit 'GO!'.

New Patronus Users - what will you need?
When you first sign up to Patronus you will need the Origo software and a special dongle which is included in the Starter-Pack. The initial set-up fee is £150 plus VAT - which includes 125 Burn-credits.

What are 'Burns'
Each time you create a Patronus-encoded copy (a 'Burn') the software will deduct one unit from your remaining number of Burns. The unit cost of each Burn is £0.50 excluding VAT.

How do I top-up my Patronus burns?
Again, we have kept this as simple as possible. Simply add the Top-up package/s to your shopping basket and you will be sent an email with a top-up code and instructions.

Can I use it with my dumb DVD duplication tower?
No, you will not be able to copy a Patronus protected disc on your DVD duplication tower - which we think is a positive thing! You can buy specially configured towers to enable you to burn multiple Patronus DVDs at once (example - www.rip-stop.co.uk), or follow the simple guide to building your own Patronus Duplication Tower detailed in the article attached to the bottom of this page.

Can I use it on a Mac?
Patronus is a PC-based program, but it will work OSx by using VMware Fusion (http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/) with Windows XP installed as a Guest operating system.
